[Jap n Korean] Update on learning Korean and Japanese

This week is my 5th week into my semester. I have to admit that I was struggling with it for the first 4 weeks. There were so many things to read n know since I know nothing about linguistics. I’m slowly adapting to the pace. And am grateful for Isaberuchan’s encouragementduring this period as well. It means a lot! ^^

I’ll be having my mid-semester break end of this week. It’s good news! This means I can catch up on all my readings n study languages! Actually I just submitted my assignment last week n am unofficially giving myself a break from all these studying.

I have to admit that I have been catching up on TVXQ’s activities in Japan all these way so even though I’m studying, I’m still sane~ hehehe~ So in a way, I still managed to keep at my listening when it comes to Japanese. And I helped a fan translate a short you-tube video of a TVXQ interview since the subs weren’t out as yet. It was an enriching experience since it was my first time translating a youtube video and interview. I’m quite pleased that my first attempt to translate a youtube video is TVXQ’s~ I’m actually glad I’m a fangirl at this point cos being one helps me with my Japanese! Hehehe~ I wish I can post the video here but apparently it has been removed due to rights issues.

Korean-wise, I have to admit I am putting in a lot more effort since there’s so much things I do not know. Now that I can better manage my studies and work, I have started learning Korean. Should I say, relearn everything. I’m back to listening to my Korean podcasts. This time round, I’m listening to a female DJ 유인나. I didn’t know who she is until I went n did a search on her n realized that she was paired up with Yunho in a TV show. Hehehe~ I’m SO outdated with K-pop~

Anyway, the hardest thing about catching up is refreshing everything. I’m trying to immerse myself with the language. I’m focusing on my reading this time.

I’m reading my grammar book and a couple of other books cos I find that I can’t focus that well when I’m reading the grammar book. I read some chapters from “Continuing Korean” (which I got from the library) but found some parts boring.

In the end, I moved on to reading contents I found from the internet. I chose articles that I find interesting so that I can keep myself motivated.

After reading 韓国語ジャーナル and まいにちハングル講座, I realized I enjoy reading both Japanese n Korean at the same time. I enjoyed the representation and decided to do the same for my studies.

Kekeke~ my study desk

I have gone to find materials that interest me and printed out the materials to read them. This really beats reading boring grammar books. I figured I found things to sustain me for a while now.

I get a lot of satisfaction learning Korean since there are a lot of things I do not know. Not that Japanese doesn’t give me satisfaction. Just that I get to learn more things since I hardly know Korean. Kkk~ Right now, I’m building my momentum for learning Korean but am no hurry to want to improve quickly. My focus is more on understanding and reading lengthy passages.

I’m sure everyone has their preferred way of studying languages. The above method is just my method that keeps me focused. What are yours?

  1. i’m starting to like studying japanese xD im just learning from various online sources and some of my textbooks in korean. I also like to see both languages at the same time. so learning japanese (mostly) in korean works for me!

    • That’s great! I always think interest plays a great part in helping to learn a language. I like to learn from various sources as well and do not like sticking to just one book or website.

High five! I love seeing both languages at the same time. I realized that I can focus better when I’m seeing both at the same time. Learning through English or Chinese distracts me a great deal (I have no idea why~)

  2. Awww I’m so glad I could help ^^ I hope you enjoyed your holidays :) I’m starting to study languages again too, watching videos and listening to podcasts now that I have time too \(^^)/ ganbarimashou!!
PS I see that at least you had time to fangirl xDDDD (All for the sake of you listening skills of course, not that you wanted to fangirl… U.U)

    • Thank you once again for the encouragement! ^^

I did have a good time during the holidays. It’s a pity they ended SO quickly…

Good that you have started learning languages and that you have more time for yourself. It will be so fun to hear you share your experiences with the language. ^^

Kekeke~ Yes~ hehehe~ fangirling helps to keep me sane XDDD Seriously fangirling helps in my listening a lot. It inspires me to work harder so that I can understand what is going on.
